Local News | Sopa Perota Day!
"Día de las Sopas Perotas" (Day of Perotas Soups) in Álora is celebrated every first Saturday of October, and in 2025, the date will be Saturday, October 4, 2025. On that day 1000s of visitors will flock to the town to enjoy this local dish, which has its origins in the 19th century when the local Field workers and Farmers, used whatever they had to hand to provide a substantial meal for their families. The local economy was based of agriculture and workers made the best of what they had to create this dish, stale bread, potatoes, tomatoes and Olive Oil. Over the years it has been enhanced with the addition of Onions, green peppers, olives and asparagus, to create both a filling and tasty meal.
The event is held in the Plaza de la Despedía (PLaza Baja) with the magnificent Parish Church providing a back drop to the traditional folk dancing, Flamenco, and of course, music as well as stalls to browse whilst you enjoy this unique dish.
It forms part of the Andalucian Calendar of Events and is one of the highlights of year.
